About Code Club Aotearoa
Every kiwi kid deserves the opportunity to learn to code
Every kiwi kid deserves the opportunity to learn to code
Founded in a small computer lab in Aranui, Ōtahtahi (Christchurch) in 2014, Code Club Aotearoa has since expanded nationwide thanks to the support of our volunteers and club leaders. Our work encourages students to utilise their imaginations with step-by-step guides to create games, make and design websites, code interactive stories and much more.
Code Club Aotearoa now supports and empowers a network of volunteers across the motu, with over 400 clubs and around 4000 children a week learning digital skills to prepare for a digital future.
Code Club Aotearoa is part of the global Code Club movement, partnering with The Raspberry Pi Foundation to provide clubs with classroom-ready resources. The programme is completely free, and diversity, inclusivity and accessibility are key to our kaupapa.
Code Club Aotearoa is on a mission to help close the digital divide; we want to see every child in Aotearoa New Zealand grow up with the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in their community.
We believe this can be achieved by delivering high quality digital technology education accessible across financial, cultural and geographic lines.
"The students use technology to solve real world problems in their communities."
"The children apply problem solving skills to their life outside the classroom. Computer science provides a truly universal skill set – no other subject teaches children how to approach, solve and action a solution like computer science."
"I see independence and collaboration between students regardless of age or gender. Playground behaviour has improved on the days Code Club is run."
"I have an child in my a class who suffers from autism. His mother has thanked me for the difference that Code Club has made to his life."
"I love seeing the enthusiasm of the children who go home and work all night creating code. They are 100% hooked. Some kids are so into coding that as soon as they get on their computer they tell their parents to leave!"
We want a Code Club in every school, kura and library across the motu! Whether you are a parent, teacher, student, volunteer or librarian, getting involved is easy! Click on the button below and we will help you through the process.
